The rack is welded or bolted to the side of the gate, running parallel to the gate's direction of travel. The gate motor's pinion gear engages with the rack's teeth; as the motor turns, it drives the gate open and closed along the rack's length. A small clearance (typically 2–3mm) is maintained between the rack teeth and the pinion teeth to ensure smooth, low-friction movement without binding.
